Background and History
- Hoylake Cottage was established in 1898 as The Queen Victoria Cottage Hospital and was an important part of the local community, becoming part of the National Health Service in 1948. Following its closure in 1983 it reopened in 1984 as Hoylake Cottage Hospital Trust Limited, a charitable company limited by guarantee.
- Our service has developed over the last 25 years. We now offer nursing and respite care for older people with nursing needs and those with a diagnosis of dementia in addition to day care for both client groups.
- Charity Number 515591 Registered Number. 1844549.
- Hoylake Cottage was established under a memorandum of association, which sets out its objects and powers and is governed by its articles of association.
- We are registered with the Care Quality Commission, and are subject to inspections on a yearly basis. An up-to-date record of inspections is available on this website.
- Hoylake Cottage is governed by a Board of Trustees for the purposes of Company and Charity Law.
- There are two Board Committees, each chaired by a Trustee who reports to the main Board: Management Committee - responsible for monitoring Hoylake Cottage’s financial position and the Fundraising Committee - who are responsible for developing and executing fundraising strategies for the unfunded phase 2 development (new kitchen and day care centre).
- The day to day running of Hoylake Cottage is the responsibility of the Chief Executive supported by a Care Manager and Finance Manager.
Hoylake Cottage is fortunate in its close affinity with the community which provides over 150 volunteers who give a large proportion of their time supporting the service provision of older people’s care.
One in five people cares for an older relative, and many of these carers are also likely to be in poor health.
